Cmdr. John Mullen takes command as father and former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff watches

COLUMBUS, Ohio — “I remember it was his change of command day for the USS Yorktown, CG 48, It was 1991 or 1992, I was 12 or 13, and he got up there and had just assumed command. He was giving his opening speech to the crew and made a comment, ‘I am going to make the USS Yorktown better when I leave than when I took over.’” Cmdr. John S. Mullen, commanding officer of Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Ohio River Valley (ORV), said remembering words his father, Former Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff (JCS) and Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. (ret.) Michael Mullen said over 30 years ago.

DSCC fuel point project to provide long-term solution for aging tanks

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three 10,000-gallon fuel tanks were installed at Defense Supply Center Columbus June 1, marking the beginning of a long-term project at the installation’s fuel point to replace aging underground fuel storage tanks with above-ground tanks.

DSCC celebrates Arbor Day, plants 37 native trees at MWR Sports Park

As part of an ongoing effort to further develop Defense Supply Center Columbus’ urban forest under the Tree City USA program, 37 larger caliper native trees were planted at the DSCC MWR Sports Park May 10 by Installation Management personnel.

DSCC MWR’s Operation Cookie Drop gives Ohio military a big thank you for Military Appreciation Month

COLUMBUS, OH — In honor of Military Appreciation Month, the Defense Supply Center Columbus Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s annual Operation Cookie Drop distributes hundreds of cases of Girl Scout cookies donated by the Girl Scouts of Ohio's Heartland each May. This year, the Girl Scouts and DSCC MWR distributed 1300 cases of cookies to about 5,600 service members from 32 units (large and small) throughout Ohio.

DSCC commander to honor fallen at Bexley Memorial Day event

Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Commander U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Kristen Fabry will be the keynote speaker for the City of Bexley’s annual Memorial Day service May 30. Bexley is a neighboring community of the Defense Supply Center Columbus military installation. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at Drexel Circle.

DSCC named Tree City USA for the fourth consecutive year

MT VERNON, Ohio — Defense Supply Center Columbus was named a Tree City USA for the fourth consecutive year at the annual Tree City USA Awards Presentation on April 21 in the Schnormeier Event Center in Ariel-Foundation Park in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. The all-day event was attended by representatives from 45 communities across 15 counties in Central Ohio.

Pinwheel Parade educates, raises awareness of effects of child abuse

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A sense of normalcy was in the chilly morning air as the first Pinwheel Parade in two years stepped off from the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Child Development Center April 26. Children from the CDC hopped, walked, waddled and rode around the block waving their pinwheels escorted by DSCC Police, parents and CDC staff members.

Sip (Tea) ‘n Paint event shares awareness of April observances

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Program managers for the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program and Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Family Advocacy Program joined forces to host a combined Sip (Tea) ‘n Paint event to educate the defense federal community and provide resource materials on sexual violence and child abuse prevention topics.
