Protecting Ohio waters this winter – be salt smart

Did you know that it only takes one teaspoon of road salt to permanently pollute five gallons of water to a level that is toxic for freshwater ecosystems? While salt application to roadways is a common practice for driver safety, the excess salt may pollute streams and lakes making it difficult for fish, frogs, mussels, insects and waterfowl to survive.

DSCC Child Development Center garden teaches children about science and cooperation

The sun was shining, birds chirping, and the bumblebees were buzzing amid the cacophony of little voices from seven pre-K classes as they took turns to bring their garden to life after a long winter’s sleep in front of the Defense Supply Center Columbus’ Child Development Center June 8. The garden serves as an experiential learning experience and is an extension of the curriculum provided in the classroom.
