Defense Logistics Agency’s Troop Support's Medical Directorate’s Strategic Materiel Sourcing Group and Construction and Equipment employee Meghan Michalski earned the Coalition for Government Procurement’s Acquisition Excellence Awards for Government, according to the group’s announcement February 26.

DLA provides food, uniforms, COVID tests for military during Inauguration support

As of January 20, DLA Troop Support has provided more than 50,000 cases of bottled water, 864 cases of meals-ready-to-eat, 864 cases of tailored operational training meals, 448 modules of unitized group rations, honor guard uniform items and 2,000 rapid COVID-19 tests in support of the 59th Presidential Inauguration. “As a joint partner in the Department of Defense, DLA Troop Support is proud to provide the items our nation’s military needs to enable their success,” DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Gavin Lawrence said.

DLA supports SOUTHCOM pandemic response efforts

The Defense Logistics Agency is assisting U.S. Southern Command’s COVID-19 relief efforts in a number of countries in their area of responsibility through DoD’s Humanitarian Assistance Program, in addition to their ongoing support of national efforts. Since receiving the initial request on May 29, 2020, DLA Troop Support’s Construction and Equipment supply chain has provided 24 field hospitals to SOUTHCOM, who donated them to 11 countries within their AOR.

DLA acquisition supports Operation Warp Speed COVID-19 vaccine distribution

In order to facilitate DLA’s role in the Operation Warp Speed COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan, the first 30,200 doses of the Moderna vaccine destined for OCONUS and deployed Navy Fleet requirements were ordered on Dec. 11 by the organization’s pharmaceutical support arm in anticipation of an Emergency Use Authorization from the Food and Drug Administration.

DLA support to nursing homes: A ‘challenging, humbling’ success

The Defense Logistics Agency overcame hurdles to support the nation’s demand for personal protective equipment for at-risk populations early in the coronavirus pandemic. As one of the U.S.’s most susceptible populations, the elderly became a primary focus of DLA Troop Support’s Construction and Equipment supply chain when the Department of Health and Human Service requested two tranches of pre-packaged lifesaving protective items for 15,455 nursing homes nationwide.
