Medical supply chain sweeps DLA Troop Support annual awards

The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Medical team is walking a little taller after sweeping the organization’s three major annual award categories in recognition of their support to the nation in 2021. The awards recognized Thomas Heleniak, Medical Tailored Vendor Logistics Specialist, as Employee of the Year; the Operation Allies Welcome/Refuge group as Team of the Year; and Nora Steigerwalt, director of Customer Operations, as the Supervisor of the Year.

DLA Troop Support member, team recognized for excellence

An acquisition specialist with Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Medical’s National Contracts team and the organization’s J3/5 Operations and Plans Weapon System Readiness Support Branch, were recognized for their accomplishments in fiscal year 2021 fourth quarter. Ryan Ferry was selected as DLA’s Employee of the Quarter and the J3/5 team was recognized for their contributions towards DLA Strategic Goals. The recognition period for the awards was July 1 through Sept. 31, 2021, and award selections were announced Dec. 2021.

Continuous Process Improvement project improves efficiencies, effectiveness of new employees and teams

What are the organizational impacts of new employee onboarding delays, and how can the processes improve? That is exactly the question the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Continuous Process Improvement team asked in 2018, and ultimately answered December 2021. Six projects and a little more than two years later, the impacts are an estimated $2.7 million in cost offsets over a three-year period, and several weeks of productivity per new employee, CPI Branch Chief Maximo Ayala-Ortiz said.

DLA supports local COVID-19 surge testing in southwest Philly

As Southwest Philadelphians line up at the opening of a new federal COVID-19 surge testing site at the Cibotti Recreation Center on 77th Street this afternoon, employees of the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support can be proud that their hard work is supporting communities in the local area. DLA Troop Support fulfilled the request for 1,000 surgical masks, 2,000 KN95 masks and 80,000 nitrile gloves January 5, just one day after receiving the request for support, according to the organization’s Whole of Government Division Chief Dorothy O’Connell.
