AAPI presentation shares struggles, joys of cultural integration with DLA employees

Sarun Chan identifies as many things: an American, a south Philadelphian, and Cambodian, but not necessarily in that order. His experiences as an infant born in a refugee camp in Thailand, a child raised in poverty in Philadelphia and as the Executive Director of the Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia define who he is. During a virtual event honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month May 12, Chan shared those identities and what they mean to him and his community with Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support employees.

Diversity, visibility, inclusion top DLA Troop Support Pride Month observance

Fifty years ago, during four hot summer days in New York City’s Greenwich Village, the Stonewall Riots sparked the LGBTQ movement that continues today. More than just a series of fights, marches, protests and arrests, the historic event planted the seeds for the movement of pride, acceptance, equality, visibility and empowerment that is still growing. Jonathan Lovitz, senior vice president of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, served as the keynote speaker for the LGBTQ Pride Month Observance June 20 at the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia.

Speaker shares stories of bravery, unity of Asian American and Pacific Islanders throughout U.S. history

Keynote speaker Rob Buscher, a member of the board of the Japanese American Citizens League’s Philadelphia Chapter and the program director at Philadelphia’s Fleischer Art Memorial, shared historical vignettes from more than 40 culturally unique populations during an informative presentation to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support.

Troop Support hosts interactive program that highlights African-Americans in times of war

Vocalists performed renditions of several contemporary songs and older spiritual selections to accompany a video showcasing African-Americans’ service in every major conflict in U.S. history during a cultural observance presentation for employees at NSA Philadelphia.
