Eye on the ground: A look inside Distribution’s Expeditionary Team’s hurricane support

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — Before the 2017 hurricane season, DLA Distribution had never had all three expeditionary teams deployed simultaneously in support of a natural disaster. They worked together on deployments in Afghanistan but never for a FEMA response.

Distribution Transportation Team ensures meals, water and other supplies delivered to those affected by hurricanes

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. — Every March, the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Headquarters Transportation Team works with Surface Deployment and Distribution Command on DLA/FEMA requirements to prepare a solicitation to the carrier industry for disaster support rates. When FEMA requirements are sent, the team utilizes the carriers and rates from this solicitation to quickly position supplies at the FEMA staging locations.
