Cherry Point distribution center to welcome new deputy commander

Paul A. McMillan is scheduled to rejoin the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution team Sept. 3, to serve as Deputy Director, DLA Distribution Cherry Point, North Carolina.

McMillan is a retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. who has served in a wide range of logistics assignments, beginning in 1980. He contributed to the Ground Launched Cruise Missile program and served on the Intermediate Nuclear Force Treaty Inspection Team at Florennes, Belgium. He also developed the Headquarters, U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command Munitions Directorate and served as the munitions liaison to Headquarters, U.S. Special Operations Command, J4.

In 1998, McMillan was assigned as a Superintendent to the National Science Foundation’s United States Antarctic Program for Operation Deep Freeze in Christchurch, New Zealand, the longest running military operation in history.  While there, he served as a lead member in the transfer of Antarctic military operations from the U.S. Navy to the U.S. Air Force, and also held additional duties as Contracting Officer’s Representative, Transportation Management Officer, Maintenance Superintendent, and Senior Enlisted Advisor to more than 1,100 deployed personnel. McMillan also notably served a key role as one of seven personnel in the southern hemisphere who helped coordinate the South Pole rescue of Dr. Jeri Nielson.  

McMillan’s military career culminated with service as the Mission Support Group Chief Enlisted Manager, providing leadership to more than 400 professionals in logistics, communications, security forces, services, and civil engineering.

After retiring from the U.S. Air Force in November 2006, McMillan started his DLA career as the Site Manager for DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas.  He later served as the Operations Officer for DLA Distribution Europe; Deputy Commander, DLA Distribution Anniston, Alabama from February 2010 to February 2015; Deputy Commander DLA Distribution Bahrain, Southwest Asia from February 2015 to August 2016; and most recently as DLA Disposition Services Area Manager, Kaiserslautern, Germany from August 2016 to September 2017. 

McMillan is a graduate of the Institute for Defense and Business’ Depot and Arsenal Executive Leadership Program from the University of North Carolina; studied logistics in the Community College of the Air Force; and holds an Executive Champions Certificate in Lean Six Sigma from North Carolina State University.  He was awarded the Exceptional Meritorious Civilian Service Award in February 2015 and July 2016, and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in May 2009, June 2011, April 2013, and May 2014.
