PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii –
Navy Logistics Specialist 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Alvaro Gonzalez reenlisted April 2 during a ceremony aboard the USS Missouri in front of the imposing third turret. His family and friends were present to share the experience with him.
The ceremony was hosted by Army Lt. Col. (P) Jeremy Edwards, chief of the Department of Pediatrics at Tripler Army Medical Center.
Gonzalez was born in Colombia and moved to the United States in May 2001. He joined the Navy in December 2009 and attended basic training and advanced school in 2010. His first assignment was with the Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron (Light), stationed in Jacksonville, Florida.
In June 2012, Gonzalez transferred to his first ship, the USS Fitzgerald in Yokosuka, Japan. He participated in multiple exercises and operations, including the Flight Test Integrated-01 live-fire demonstration, Valiant Shield, Foal Eagle, Keen Sword, Guam Defense and Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training.
He was transferred to Atsugi, Japan in July 2015 but later joined his current duty station, Defense Logistics Agency Maritime Pearl Harbor as a material expeditor.
Following his reenlistment ceremony, Gonzalez extended his thanks to the peers and leaders who provided him guidance as well as his family for their continued support.
Gonzalez will be departing in the fall for sea duty on board the Pearl Harbor-based USS Michael Murphy.
