MWR Outdoor Recreation wants to be the “go to” place for fun outdoor activities

By Cathy Hopkins DLA Aviation Public Affairs

As summertime approaches and temperatures warm up, Katelynn Cutshall wants employees to consider Outdoor Recreation as their place to go when planning fun outdoor activities.

Cutshall is the new office manager for Outdoor Recreation, under DLA Installation Operations at Richmond’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Office.  Prior to coming to Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, about a month ago, Cutshall said she managed Outdoor Adventures for Marine Corps Community Services at Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virignia.

She said she is excited to be overseeing Outdoor Recreation rentals. “One of the first things I want employees to know is that the phone is working again,” she chuckled. “And even if the lights appears to be out, we are here.  Come on in to see what we have or call us.” Outdoor Recreations can be reached at 804-279-1094, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located in Bldg 24, the Round House.

MWR has a new website and employees can learn about available rentals under Programs & Services, Recreation & Leisure. A tri-fold is also available to download.  Required forms are online, as well as safety tips for equipment use.

“Renting is easy, it only takes about 15 minutes to complete forms for small rentals like tables, chairs, party canopies, large grills, bounce houses and games,” said Cutshall.  “We also have three pavilions available on center, free of charge this year.”  All pavilions have lights, fans and grilling equipment.

For the water enthusiasts, Cutshall said there are bass and Jon boats, kayaks, canoes and paddle boards available to rent on a daily and weekly basis. To rent boats, employees will need to show they have completed the Virginia Boater’s Safety class, which is free online.

“If you need generators, leaf blowers, or trailers to meet your hauling needs, we have those too,” she said. Cutshall said vehicles will have to be equipped with their own hitch setup as MWR does not rent those.

Something new Cutshall is excited about this year is Outdoor Recreation van tours.

“We have a new 14-passenger van and plan to start offering group tours this summer,” she said. Tour locations will include wineries and breweries for lunch and tastings, as well as short trips to the District of Columbia for popular tourist and shopping attractions.
