Former Army food advisor earns DLA Troop Support Employee of the Year

By Michael Tuttle DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

The 2017 Employee of the Year at the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support was a DLA customer when he served in uniform as an Army food advisor. He now advocates on behalf of DLA’s customers while sporting his civilian attire.

Anthony Britt Jr. retired from the Army in 2016 as a chief warrant officer 2. His last Army assignment was with the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, the lead organization for all sustainment activities for the Army in Europe, where he was on the receiving end of DLA Troop Support’s Subsistence supply chain support.

He’s now a tailored vendor logistics specialist, or customer representative, with DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa, headquartered in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

As a TVLS with DLA, Britt anticipated customers’ needs and worked with the Subsistence prime vendor in Northern Europe to ensure Class I food support for Operation Atlantic Resolve exercises in Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Hungary, according to his award narrative. Operation Atlantic Resolve is a series of exercises that began in 2014 which demonstrates the U.S. commitment to the defense of NATO allies.

“It's an honor to continue to serve within the government and being able to support the warfighter is a blessing,” Britt said.

Britt was recognized for filling in for the TVLS team lead, according to the narrative. He was also picked to cover as the backup contracting officer representative, serving as the contracting officer’s eyes and ears for the two Subsistence prime vendors in Europe.

“Anthony is well suited in these rolls because he understands how customer and supplier facing issues impact each other,” said Richard Morrow, who was the customer facing division chief when he worked with Britt in Kaiserslautern and now works at DLA Troop Support in Philadelphia.

“This is not an individual achievement,” Britt said of his award. “Troop Support Europe & Africa is a great organization and I received great mentorship when I came on board.”

As a former Army food advisor, Britt came to DLA with a vast knowledge of Class I logistics, said Stephen Garces, Brit’s TVLS team lead when he arrived in August 2016.

“When you ask Anthony to complete a task or additional duties, he does not hesitate,” said Garces, who now also works at DLA Troop Support in Philadelphia. “As a result of his positive attitude to take on additional duties, he is now one of the key team members at DLA Troop Support Europe and Africa who can fill a variety of Class I positions.”
