Central Ohio small businesses gain millions

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime announced that more than $120 million in government contracting dollars have been awarded to Ohio small businesses since the beginning of the fiscal year. Third quarter numbers released today reflect an increase of more than $40 million from the first half of the fiscal year. Nearly $37 million in award dollars have gone to small businesses in the Columbus region – an increase of more than $7 million in the third quarter. The Columbus Metropolitan Region encompasses the following counties according to the Columbus Chamber of Commerce: Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Knox, Logan, Licking, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Pickaway and Union.

The Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Small Business Office located at the Defense Supply Center Columbus promotes small business and socio-economic programs while working closely with the acquisition community as they seek suppliers to fulfill DLA’s mission of Warfighter logistics support. In FY17, DLA Land and Maritime awarded more than $130 million to Ohio small businesses.

The DLA Land and Maritime Small Business Office also offers training to Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTACs) specialists. PTACs are located in nearly every state and are funded by DLA and local governments to help vendors market their products and services to local, state and federal governments. PTACs and Small Business Offices both provide tools to help small businesses be more successful in government contracting.
