PHILADELPHIA –
Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support and Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support employees celebrated the culture and traditions of Hispanic Americans during a National Hispanic Heritage Month program Oct. 11.
This year’s theme is One Endless Voice to Enhance Our Traditions and reflects the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
“Generations of Hispanics have made an overwhelming impact on our American culture and history because of their values on family and faith, commitment to hard work, contributions to all aspects of American society, and their love to their country by serving in the Armed Forces,” Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly, DLA Troop Support commander said during his welcoming remarks.
The Philadelphia Community Services cabinet deputy managing director, Joanna Otero-Cruz was the guest speaker for the event.
She followed Simerly’s sentiments by highlighting specific Latino contributions in science, medicine, economy and military service.
“We are resilient, educated and we are everywhere,” Otero-Cruz said. “During this Hispanic Heritage Month we celebrate the contributions that Hispanics have made throughout history, our society, industries and sectors of the world.”
The DLA Troop Support Equal Employment Opportunity Office and NAVSUP Weapons Systems Support EEO Advisory Committee sponsored the program.
