Tree lighting ceremony kicks off DSCR holiday season

DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Linda Hurry hosted the annual tree lighting ceremony in the Frank B. Lotts Conference Center on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Dec. 4.

A full house greeted the Bensley Elementary School fifth grade chorus class who helped kick off the holiday season. Amy Clement, chief, DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office, served as emcee.

Dr. Patrice Wilson, school principal, thanked DLA staff for the opportunity to perform and for providing the children with guidance. “Our students are your future leaders,” she said. “Thank you for being role models.”

Hurry made remarks and recognized several staff members for length of service, including Phillip Mitchell for 46 years.  She also mentioned Lee Scott, engineering technician, DLA Installation Operations Richmond as one of DLA’s Top 10 Employees and Maurice Sanabria, supervisory management analyst, Command Support Directorate, DLA Aviation, who was recognized by DLA Headquarters for his work in equal employment opportunities.

“Now let’s get on to the fun,” she said as two BES children assisted her in flipping the switch to light the tree.

Clement then introduced the chorus led by Victoria Shelton, music teacher.

Clement closed with an invitation for everyone to have refreshments provided by the Civilian Welfare Fund.
