DLA supports DoD mission at Travis AFB

By Air Force Tech. Sgt. James Hodgman

Organizations at Travis Air Force Base, California, get more from the Defense Logistics Agency than repair parts, food and fuel.

Tucked away in a large brown building behind the Travis Heritage Center is DLA Document Service’s printing facility. Open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., it offers printing services for everything from outdoor signs and banners to vehicle decals and aircraft logos.

“We are here to support the mission. Many people may not realize that,” said Michelle Mulno-Triplett, DLA supervisory document automation specialist. “They may think they can only use the copiers in their offices, or they may believe using a vendor downtown is a better option. But you can’t beat our service.”

The office is supported by a professional graphic artist and about a dozen employees who strive to exceed customers’ expectations, she said.

In fiscal 2018, the shop produced more than 750,000 decals, 39,000 magnets and over 450 posters. The team has already supported 600 requests and produced more than 176,000 items this fiscal year.

Kathy Kruczek, DLA document automation production specialist, has worked at Travis AFB since 1993 and started working at the DLA facility in 2008.

“Along with typical printing needs such as programs, copies or posters, we can also do reflective decals, large-format printing, banner material up to 98 inches wide, reflective decals and aircraft logos,” she said.

Some products require extra care, such as aircraft logos that are specially treated so wind and changing air conditions don’t strip them from flying aircraft. The DLA team also ships products to customers who can’t pick up their orders in person and supports government organizations far from Travis.

“Someone may say, ‘I have a conference in Florida and I have to get on the plane now. Can you have my product delivered to the hotel?’” Mulno-Triplett said. “The answer is, ‘Yes, we can.’ We can deliver almost anywhere.”

The team regularly supports the New York City Army Recruiting Office, Defense Commissary Agency, and Space and Naval Warfare Headquarters in San Diego. It has designed programs for the Air Force Academy graduations, supported an Army Corps of Engineers request for visitor center signs at Lake Sonoma in Geyserville, California, and just completed an order for 650 double-sided map boards that will be shipped to Army customers at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

“If there’s a printing need you have that we can’t accommodate, we will work to find a solution,” Kruczek said.
