Women’s History Month Spotlight: Twana Chapman

DLA Energy Public Affairs

Editor’s note: Every year March is designated as Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. In honor of this tradition, Defense Logistics Agency Energy is recognizing some of its top-notch female employees who are making a difference as champions of Warfighter support.

My name is:
Twana Chapman

I am:
An Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 serving on active duty as the military quality liaison officer for DLA Energy Quality Technical Support Directorate at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. I am a native of Talladega, Alabama. I enlisted into the U.S. Army in February 2000 as a petroleum supply specialist. I commissioned into the Army Warrant Officer Corps as a petroleum systems technician in August 2007.

Describe your job in a sentence:
As the DLA senior military quality liaison officer, I spearhead the consolidation and preparation of Post Award Requests and task orders for the optimization and sustainment of commercial laboratory services, equipment purchase, products and services worldwide.

How long have you worked at DLA?
Eight months with DLA Energy, although my career with DLA began in July 2018.

What is your favorite thing about working for DLA?
I enjoy DLA’s strategic thinking, strong partnerships and the agency’s forward-focused analysis decision making processes for the Warfighter. DLA’s diverse joint environment is comprised of an extensive number of subject matter experts that I enjoy working with daily. I embrace the agency’s sense of urgency to meet the Warfighter supply chain requirements across all logistical spectrums.

What are your best memories of working here?
I will always uphold DLAs standards and emulate their method of approach as I move forward in my career as a logistician and senior advisor. The DLA strategic “One Team, One Fight” concept and high operational tempo focus on global readiness are my best memories of working at DLA. In addition, I value DLA’s Family Day as a great venue for families to see our day-to-day business environment.

How do you make a difference?
By focusing and understanding multiplicity concepts of the leader’s mission, vision and goals. I am transparent, flexible and understand the onset of unanticipated mission requirements to support leadership, team members and ultimately the Warfighter.

How do you resolve conflict in the workplace and at home?
Staying mission focused is my primary goal as a team player while focusing on the Warfighter, DLA goals and fostering our strategic partnerships. In the face of conflict, I embrace it immediately by addressing the situation for a definitive resolution, even if it is uncomfortable. Finally, I stay focused spiritually with my family, keeping a great work-life balance by including them in all aspects of my life.
