Troop Support exudes excellence at federal awards ceremony

By Mikia Muhammad DLA Troop Support Public Affiars

Eleven Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support individuals and teams were recognized by federal service peers during the 2019 Federal Executive Board Excellence in Government Awards ceremony May 9 in Philadelphia.

Nearly 200 people attended the ceremony as DLA Troop Support awardees received five gold medals, the highest accolade within an award category, three silver medals and three bronze medals. Winning award categories included outstanding technical achievement, administrative support and community service.

“The FEB awards ceremony was an excellent event, with DLA Troop Support nominees thrilled to take home 11 medals for their outstanding accomplishments throughout the year,” said Dena Selkow, Troop Support awards coordinator and management and program analyst. “In certain categories our nominees were competing against 15 other nominees, and won medals. Winners, nominees and nominators should all feel proud.”

Troop Support J3/5 Operations and Plans Director Navy Capt. William H. Clarke represented the organization’s senior leadership at the event.

“I was extremely impressed by the quality and quantity of DLA Troop Support nominations, and more importantly, how well we did in terms of winning,“ Clarke said. “More than half of our nominations won some level of award, which is all the more impressive when you realize how many other federal agencies participating.”

Amongst Troop Support awardees, the J3/5 Plans and Integration team received the gold medal FEB Economy in Government Operations Award for developing a logistics support concept to decrease response time for critical contingency operation materiel in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

Team members collaborated with the Army Materiel Command to develop an integrated investment plan, which resulted in a cost savings of $15 million for the Department of Defense, according to the award nomination.

“The team’s efforts directly strengthened combatant command readiness and lethality by ensuring DLA is globally postured to support the warfighter during the initial phases of a contingency,” wrote nominator Mary Martin, J3/5 Future Operations Division deputy.
