Susquehanna MWR kicks off Commander’s Cup with “Armed Forces Day” 5K Run/Walk

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Command Affairs

In recognition of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and to kick off the 2019 Commander’s Cup Series, Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosted an “Armed Forces Day” 5K Fun Run/Walk May 16. Forty-four participants competed in the run/walk.

“Weather was in the high 60s with a 10 mile per hour wind blowing – good running day,” said Robert Leasure, MWR recreational fitness and facility assistant. “Our first event of the Commanders Cup was very successful this year!  With extra marketing and word-of-mouth, the turnout was better than expected.”

Medals and shirts were given out to the top three male and female finishers. All times were recorded with chips in the system. Nathan Harmer (18:25), Eric Sweeney (19:47) and Ryan Eisenhour (20:57) were the top three male finishers. Elise Holtan (25:37), Michelle Phelps (31:14) and Jennifer Gruff (31:24) were the top three female finishers.

The Commander’s Cup Series will feature fitness events held throughout the summer, with the final event being the Commander’s Cup “Grand Finale” 10K on Sept. 19.
