The season of giving underway at DSCR

By Leon Moore DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Defense Supply Center Richmond’s Combined Federal Campaign 2019 kicked off in grand style with a ceremony in the Lotts Conference Center on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Oct. 8. As in the past few years, the theme this year is Show Some Love.

Kathie Rowland, deputy chief of staff, Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, provided opening remarks.

She said the average gift during the 2018 Campaign was $485 and urged those in attendance to meet and beat this mark this year.

“You can make a difference in and out of the office, where you serve, protect, defend and support others through every donation you make. Because of people like you, willing to ‘Show Some Love,’ there is hope that many people will have a better tomorrow,” she said.

Cristi Cousins with Mothers Against Drunk Driving Virginia and Robert Alpaugh from the Virginia Beach based Mercy Medical Angels were the guest speakers. Julie Dudley, associate director for the Combined Federal Campaign of South Central Virginia and Albemarle Bay also attended the ceremony.

Representatives from various non-profit organizations set up displays in Lotts and passed out information and answered questions after the ceremony.

Those who choose to donate have a choice of roughly 2,000 non-profits.

Christie Duke, program analyst, Command Programs, Command Support Directorate, Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, serves as the CFC campaign manager for DSCR. She said during the 2018 Campaign, federal employees across the nation and those stationed around the world contributed more than 93 million dollars to their favorite causes.

She said the DSCR workforce gave close to $90,000 in donations and volunteered close to 4,800 hours, which is valued at $94,000.

This year’s CFC campaign runs through Jan. 10.
