NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
A variety of witches, princesses, dinosaurs, and superheroes paraded around the Child Development Center for the Child and Youth Program’s annual Halloween Parade at Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna Oct. 31.
The slight drizzle of rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of CDC teachers, helpers, and parents who joined in the festivities by donning costumes and participating alongside their trick-or-treaters in the event.
Participants collected candy and displayed their creativity by walking a pre-determined route around Child and Youth Program building. The parade route started and ended at the CDC’s main entrance – the walking route included J Avenue, 15th Street and G Avenue.
Installation employees and parents lined the route at certain points to hand out candy or to simply support the children in the parade.
There were a couple of guest stops along the way as children were greeted by the firefighters of DLA Installation Management Susquehanna’s Fire and Emergency Services Rescue 69 and U.S. Marines from the 1st Marine Corps District Recruiting Station Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who walked along the route and handed out candy as well.
Kevin Camasi, J6 information technology program manager, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, and his wife Julie, walked in the parade with their daughter Emma.
“They do a good job here and the kids look forward to it every year. I’m just glad they were able to fit it in despite the rain,” said Camasi.
