Land and Maritime associate inducted into Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame

By Kristin Molinaro DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine inducted Army Col. John Dreska into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Nov. 7 during a ceremony at Radiant Life Church in Dublin, Ohio. In addition to his military service, Dreska works for the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime as the division chief for batteries, tires and engines.

DeWine and retired Army Maj. Gen. Debbie Ashenhurst, director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, presented 20 individuals from across Ohio with certificates and medals for their post-military accomplishments and achievements in the community.

The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes Ohioans who served in the military and then continue to contribute to their communities, state and nation in the areas of civic and public service, philanthropy, professional distinction, veteran advocacy and volunteerism. The Class of 2019 was selected from more than 140 nominations and hails from 14 different Ohio counties.

Now in its 28th year, the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame was established in 1992 by former Gov. George Voinovich to recognize the achievements of outstanding Ohio veterans, according to a release. Honorees over the years have included former U.S. presidents, astronauts, community volunteers, safety officers, veteran advocates and government officials.

Bronze plaques bearing the names of each inducted class are on permanent display at the Vern Riffe Building in Columbus, Ohio. An enshrinement ceremony is set for May 2020.
