NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa.—The 2019 Combined Federal Campaign has kicked off, continuing with the theme “Show Some Love.” In a message sent to employees via email by Defense Logistics Agency Distribution’s Commanding Officer, Navy Rear Adm. Kevin M. Jones, who stated he could not be more enthusiastic about the 2019 CFC Campaign.

“As we continue with the theme Show Some Love, I know our Distribution team will carry on the tradition, by making a difference with all of our charity donations,” said Jones, adding, “With our participation, each of us can make an imprint on the thousands of organizations that we have the choice to greatly impact at the local, national and international level. And as a team, we can transform those that are in need across the world through your choice of charity. Campaign key workers are available to answer any of the questions that you may have during the season.”

The CFC Today is the largest and most successful workplace charitable giving effort in the world. Pledges made during the CFC campaign season will support eligible nonprofit organizations that will provide health and service assistance throughout the world.

According to the Office of Personnel Management website, the mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

It's fairly easy to make a donation through the website portal as it is tailored to meet the particular needs of the federal donor, CFC campaigns, and charities participating in or considering participation in the CFC. Campaigns, donors and charities can enter through a portal on the site or navigate by topic with the sidebar links available. Furthermore, should there be a need for more information, employees can reach out to their organization’s dedicated campaign key person.

Fundraising for charitable organizations in the Federal workplace can be traced to the late 1940’s. However, formal authority to permit fundraising in the Federal workplace was not established until 1961. In signing Executive Order 10927, President John F. Kennedy authorized the U.S. Civil Service Commission to develop guidelines and regulate fundraising in the Federal service.
