DLA Aviation-Cherry Point leadership welcomes Marine Corps Logistics Command personnel to North Carolina for strategic engagements

By Leon Moore DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Personnel from Marine Corps Logistics Command, Albany, Georgia, and Barstow, California, traveled to Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina for a two-day workshop Oct. 23-24.

During the visit, they met with leaders from Defense Logistics Agency Headquarters, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; DLA Land and Maritime, Columbus, Ohio; DLA Aviation-Cherry Point; and DLA Distribution Cherry Point and Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. Fleet Readiness Center East leadership also attended.

DLA Aviation-Cherry Point Commander Navy Cmdr. Keith Klemm said the workshop allowed functional experts from DLA tied to supporting depot repair operations to engage with MARCORLOGCOM personnel.

“We wanted to illustrate how we as a DLA retail organization are integrated with our customer to support material requirements each day and illustrate known challenges we have faced and worked through over the years,” Klemm said.

Workshop highlights included:

  • DLA Aviation-Cherry Point Material Management and Planning and Support chiefs provided overviews of how their organizations’ support maintenance and production line requirements at FRC East, including collaborating to garner forecast and planning information up through backorders mitigation, emergency requirement fulfillment processes, organic manufacturing support and local stock number management.
  • MARCORLOGCOM personnel were briefed on how material is procured to fill local stock number and organic manufacturing requirements; and their ability of operating autonomously with funding provided by FRC East to meet material requirements.

Joshua Waller, deputy commander, DLA Aviation-Cherry Point provided a history of how DLA Aviation assumed supply support responsibilities at Fleet Readiness Center East from Naval Supply Systems Command that previously had been a function of Naval Aviation Depot. He also led the group from MARCORLOGCOM on a tour of the DLA Distribution Cherry Point retail warehouse; FRC East F/A-18 Production Control Center; Marine Corps CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopter and V-22 Osprey production lines; a raw metal storage location; and pre-expended bin stock location.
