Combined Federal Campaign kicks off at DSCC

By Kristin Molinaro DLA Land and Maritime Public Affairs

The Combined Federal Campaign kicked off at the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime Nov. 20. Pledges made by federal civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season support eligible non-profit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.

Since 2013, DLA employees at the Defense Supply Center Columbus have raised more than $1 million to support Ohio charities.

“It’s a great opportunity to do a lot of good,” said campaign organizer Ben Kinstlinger, DLA Land and Maritime’s chief of executive programs.

Kinstlinger stated the charity drive aligns with DLA Land and Maritime’s goals by demonstrating an additional way employees can support warfighters and whole of government initiatives like disaster relief.

“DLA and DOD don’t exist in a vacuum – we’re a part of society,” he said. “Our workforce trying to do good by improving society through charitable contributions helps us to support that mission in incalculable ways.”

The theme of this year’s campaign is Show Some Love and employees will have the option to contribute volunteer hours along with monetary donations. Kinstlinger emphasized that all donations are voluntary and no employees should feel compelled to donate.

In a memo announcing the 2019 campaign, Acting Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management Margaret Weichert noted last year’s campaign netted $93 million in funds and volunteer time benefitting thousands of local, national and international causes. OPM manages the worldwide campaign.

“Members of the federal family demonstrate that our commitment to public service extends far beyond the workplace,” Weichert added.

DLA Land and Maritime will host a Giving Tuesday event on Dec. 3 to provide information and donation help to associates. The all-day event will be held in the Operations Center’s Cardinal Room. DLA Land and Maritime CFC Captains will also host awareness events throughout the directorates during the campaign season.

The 2019 CFC campaign runs through Jan. 12. Associates looking for more information on charity listings and how to make a pledge should visit the DLA Land and Maritime CFC webpage.
