Scholarships available for students of Defense Logistics Agency employees

By DLA Public Affairs

The DLA Foundation is offering scholarships to students who have a close family connection to a current or past civilian or military Defense Logistics Agency employee.

Scholarship applications are being accepted now. The application period will close April 20 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Award announcements will occur by early June.

Up to 30 scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded. Merit and financial need are the main criteria upon which applications will be judged.

Criteria for applicants includes a close family connection as a child, stepchild, grandchild, niece or nephew of a current or former DLA military or civilian employee. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and high school seniors or college students who will attend an undergraduate school or trade/technical school as a full-time student in academic year 2020-2021 (12 semester hours). Appointees to military service academies are not eligible. Students must have at least a minimum 3.0 grade point average and high school seniors must have a minimum SAT score of 1000 or ACT score of 20. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid Student Aid Report will be used to determine financial need. The maximum expected family contribution in the FASFA that will be considered is 15,000.

The DLA Foundation scholarships are made possible through the foundation’s fundraising activities, such as a golf outing normally held in September, a beer tasting, normally held in December; and through other donations to the foundation.

In addition to scholarships from the Foundation’s general fund, there are two sponsored scholarships:

  • A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded through the Major General Charles R. Henry Scholarship to a current or former DLA military wounded warrior or his/her spouse, child, or grandchild.
  • A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded through a donor-funded scholarship in honor of Mr. Frank Lotts for a child, stepchild, grandchild, niece, or nephew of a current or former DLA military or civilian employee who is pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).

Application forms and documents are available at the DLA Foundation website. Detailed guidance for applicants is available (Employees may need to access the directions on a non-DLA computer).

The DLA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization not affiliated with the Department of Defense.
