What is your job title and what is your role? I’m the Deputy Director of Business Process Support.  I manage a team of associates who provide metrics, policy and process support to Land and Maritime.

How long have you worked for L&M and how did you get your start? I’ve worked here for 18 years. I started as an Item Manager in the outstanding scholar program.

What is your favorite thing about your line of work? Working with our team of experts to solve problems – really digging into the root cause and fixing things.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you? That if you are always succeeding you aren’t trying hard enough stuff.

If you could learn to master one thing, what would it be? I would like to learn to play the guitar.

Who is the most influential person in your life – past or present? My first mentor, Diane Circle, she taught me so much about being a supervisor, about how to be a leader, a parent and life in general.

What do you think about when you hear Women’s Equality Month? How much things have changed but at the same time the ground we still need to cover.

Who are some women you admire? I admire all the women who are slogging through the daily grind, taking care of everyone around them and making sure things don’t fall through the cracks.

In your opinion, what challenges remain for women today? One big challenge is childcare. While not specifically a women’s issue, it is a family issue and often falls disproportionally on women.  This is becoming an ever increasing problem with so much uncertainty about schools and daycares.  I talk to many moms of younger children who feel trapped in the current situation.

How can understanding history help us to overcome them? This is a long-standing problem that ebbs and flows in severity, so there have been some solutions in the past we could perhaps turn back to.

What is your best memory of working at L&M? Standing up the first Large Purchase team in Maritime.  I learned so much and we did so much as a group.

What did you want to be when you grew up? A chemist

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? I would spend the day outdoors, do a little kayaking and cycling and finish it off with some landscape photography.

What’s the most thrilling/adventurous thing you have ever done? Whitewater rafting down the Snake River in Wyoming.  The wildlife was amazing.

If you could pick a personal motto, what would it be? If the answer is where we thought it should be, then we wouldn’t still be looking for it.

Any advice for those starting careers at L&M? Take on the hard projects, the ones no one wants and learn as much as you can.  Listen to people with different backgrounds, experiences and opinions – in the long run it gives you more perspective.
