DSCC Toastmasters Clubs to host joint meeting, competition March 31

By Todd Alan Briggs DLA Land and Maritime

The Defense Supply Center Columbus is home to three Toastmasters International Clubs and this week anyone assigned to the installation will have the opportunity to see how Toastmasters may benefit them when the three clubs host a joint meeting and competition.

Defensively Speaking Club #4410308, AGOISSI Club #3500 and the DFAS Toastmasters Club #7114 will connect virtually through the ZOOM conferencing tool from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 31 for a Table Topics meeting that all interested associates are welcome to tune in to.

Event organizers said what makes this meeting so significant is the rarity of having clubs so geographically close to each other, which also allows individuals to find the right fit for their goals. Together, these clubs represent more than 50 DSCC associates from all disciplines and backgrounds, working together to become more competent and confident speakers, communicators and leaders.

Table Topics is a format where the speaker is given the topic on the spot and must develop a 1-2 minute talk on that topic without time to prepare in advance. This is a skill particularly useful for those who may be in a meeting and find themselves asked to present information without advance notice or preparation. This format leans more toward fun and topics can be more personalized or humorous. Normal meetings consist of two or three speeches, followed by evaluations that recognize the strong parts of individual presentations along with offering suggestions for improvement in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Guests are always welcome at Toastmasters meetings. To be added to the link for this joint meeting or future meetings, please email Marizela Marin-Giraud at Marizela.Marin-Giraud@dla.mil or Maramcel Rivera at Maramcel.Rivera@dla.mil.  At the meeting, you will be able to see the three clubs in action and can decide if joining one of them is right for you.
