San Joaquin’s Ruiz selected as DLA Top Ten Employee

By Annette Silva, DLA Distribution San Joaquin Public Affairs

Jennifer Ruiz, Base Supply process worker at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution San Joaquin, California, was named a DLA Top Ten Employee.

Her extensive subject matter expertise and ability to work well with others, exemplary relationships with all internal and external customers, managers and employees led to her selection.

Ruiz was responsible for processing COVID-19 related cleaning and sanitizing material. She took charge of the pandemic related workload and ensured cleaning and sanitation agents were received into the base supply system and expeditiously delivered the items to customers

Aside from her primary duties, she went above and beyond in assisting her co-workers with offloading conveyances, customer deliveries, and material expediting, as well as serving as our problem resolution liaison to customers. Further, she was instrumental in her ability to receive, process and deliver the customer’s Direct Turnover Orders by meticulously matching documentation to received material, resulted in an environment of audit sustainment and excellent resource stewardship.

Ruiz is a true safety champion. She contributed her ideas to the base supply office system design and her input ensured all social distancing requirements were met, while improving the flow of work and communications. Her feedback following a test and evaluation of the layout for workstations, validated assumptions that the system would help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, while maintaining functionality and capability of the old design.

To recognize exceptional employees for their performance, she executed a workload production report that accurately captured employees’ processing and production times, lines per hour totals and both efficiency and effectiveness ratings. This initiative allowed leadership to accurately track each employee’s performance and was key to a new employee incentive program being implemented.

Ruiz is an exceptional processor of material. She contributed to improving material throughput by nearly 10%. This was critical to the surge associated with the COVID-19 response and uptick in demands supporting new business.

“Ms. Ruiz’s outstanding contributions in support of our nation’s warfighters and for her demonstrated commitment to DLA’s goal of delivering Global Distribution Excellence led to her selection as one of DLA’s Top Ten Employees,” said her supervisor Jesus Lopez. “Jennifer took pride and personal responsibility in her daily work and always outperformed her daily production requirements, setting the standard for all Base Supply employees.”
