Distribution Corpus Christi’s Fuentes is a DLA’s Top 10 Leader of the Year

By Kylie Young, DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Shawn Fuentes, motor vehicle operator at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas, was named the Leader of the Year in the Top Ten Level 1 category of DLA’s 54th Annual Employee Recognition Program.

Fuentes serves as an operator for a variety of motor vehicles. He conducts material movement operations, safely securing, transporting and handling thousands of aviation assets throughout the installation. He also serves as a material handling equipment instructor/certifying official, ensuring all distribution assigned personnel are fully competent and qualified to operate MHE in their work areas. He also plays a vital role in DDCT’s airlift team, downloading UH60 and AH60 aircrafts from C17’s and C5’s for Corpus Christie Army Depot maintenance and repair.

“Shawn Fuentes is a very hard-working, proactive motor vehicle operator here at DDCT,” stated Elyse Ato, Fuentes’ supervisor. “He doesn’t come in every day and just do the basics; he makes it a point to be involved in any project with moving material, whether it is to help his peers in other sections or assisting our customers over at the Corpus Christi Army Depot. There is no task too big or too small for Shawn, which is why he won this global recognition.”

“Shawn is the ideal team member every supervisor would be lucky to have. He is constantly joking with his peers and his laughter is infectious. He is the type of employee that needs to be constantly moving and he really has the most confidence in his ability to handle the most complex assignments. It has been a pleasure working with Shawn and would love to se him develop into a leader here at DDCT.”
