2022 DLA Hall of Fame inductee: Janet Price

By DLA Public Affairs

Editor’s Note: This is one of six stories featuring 2022 DLA Hall of Fame inductees. A ceremony highlighting their contributions to the agency will be held Aug. 17 at the McNamara Headquarters Complex.

Janet Price, formerly of Defense Logistics Agency Aviation, is a member of the 2022 DLA Hall of Fame.

Price retired in October 2015 as the director of procurement process support. In this role, she developed procurement policies and new business systems to increase efficiency for DLA and its military customers.

As deputy director of the Supplier Operations Directorate, Price bolstered DLA’s ability to support 3 million national stock numbers and more than 1,800 weapons systems with consumable parts. She was also responsible for over 800 acquisition workforce professionals who executed an average of 30,000 monthly contracting actions.

She led DLA Aviation’s implementation of a new Enterprise Business Management System as the agency gained additional missions under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure decisions. The new system was used by three Air Force Logistics Complexes and three Navy Fleet Readiness Centers.

Price also headed a DLA-wide effort to reduce acquisition lead time and purchasing processes for consumable supply parts. Commonly referred to as Time-to-Award, the initiative benefited from Price’s leadership and ability to foster improvement in complex situations.

“Price’s exceptional leadership, expert knowledge of DOD procurement processes and policy, and ability to drive out complexity to provide better support for the warfighter has directly benefited DLA and DLA’s customers,” according to her nomination.

Her 30-year career began as a contract specialist in 1985 at the Defense General Supply Center. She was previously inducted into the DLA Aviation Hall of Fame.
