DLA Energy contributes to Combined Federal Campaign

By Connie Braesch DLA Energy Public Affairs

Give. Volunteer. Engage. The Combined Federal Campaign is an annual opportunity for members of the federal community to support charities they care about through monetary and volunteer contributions.

CFC Coordinator Michelle Groat and 32 CFC keyworkers are leading the fundraising effort for DLA Energy. Groat has been actively involved with the CFC, either as the coordinator or a keyworker, for over 30 years as a military servicemember and as a civilian.

“I like helping our agency reach our donation goals and honestly can’t imagine not being involved,” she said. “It makes me feel good to know that I am doing my part to help the different charities in achieving their mission.”

Groat donates to her favorite charities every year during CFC because she believes in their mission including St. Jude, Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Serve Our Willing Warriors.

One charity is particularly personal to her – the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation.

“I lost my grandfather to Alzheimer’s and my mom and other family members to Dementia,” she said. “I want the research to continue because if I am headed in the same direction, I pray that they find a cure.”

For federal employees, there are basically two steps to donate to the CFC.

First, choose your cause. Whether it’s something personal to you or your desire to support military families, help educational opportunities or promote equality for all, the CFC has vetted charities for any cause you want to support. You can even give to multiple charities with one pledge. Use the online charity search tool to find CFC-charities to support in the cause areas you care about.

Second, make your pledge. There are many ways to donate and you can choose to use payroll deduction, credit/debit card, e-check/bank transfer or volunteer hours (federal employees only).

  1. The online pledge system allows you to save your pledge and easily renew from year to year. If this is your first time, download these instructions to walk you through the process.
  2. New this year, you can make a one-time donation using text. Text “DONATE” TO 978-487-5678. Click the first link in the text reply; complete three fields: email, ZIP Code, and dollar amount; search for and select your charity; and choose your payment: PayPal or Credit Card.
  3. Download and donate through the CFC app. Learn more at https://cfcgiving.opm.gov/mobileinfo
  4. Or, download and print paper pledge forms

One other way you can get involved is to donate your time by being a volunteer. Volunteers not only help raise millions of dollars for thousands of approved charities but also a fantastic opportunity to network within your organization, increase your visibility, and hone your skills in management, strategic planning, creativity, problem-solving, time management, and more.

“The feeling you get when you see the smiles on the faces of the people that you are able to help, especially when you donate your time to these charities, is awesome,” Groat said.

For 2022, DLA’s CFC goal is $300,000 and DLA Energy’s CFC goal is $75,091. The 2022 CFC official solicitation period runs from Sept. 1, 2022, to Jan. 14, 2023.
