Fire warden training prepares and empowers DLA employees on DSCR

By Natalie Skelton, DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Richmond and Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia tenant employees recently completed semi-annual training preparing them to serve as fire wardens around DSCR. Classes were held virtually and in-person in the Frank B. Lotts Center Mar. 21, 22, and 23.

"They are our eyes and ears between facility inspections," said William Hock, assistant chief of Training and Fire Prevention for DLA Installation Management Richmond’s Fire and Emergency Services.

Hock said his office counts on fire wardens for fire extinguisher inspections and routine facility inspections around DSCR, as well as accountability during fire alarm inspections.

Annual training focuses on workplace safety and fire hazards for fire wardens, who are appointed for a minimum of one year.

Fire wardens are also responsible for ensuring emergency procedure information is disseminated within their work areas, briefing new employees on emergency evacuation procedures and routes,  ensuring their building or area of responsibility has an emergency evacuation diagram that includes evacuation and accountability procedures during emergencies.

The next training opportunity will be held in October.
