DLA, Energy senior leaders discuss annual operating plan

By By Jonathan Stack DLA Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency and DLA Energy senior leaders discussed the field activity’s operations May 29 during DLA Energy’s Annual Operating Plan Review at the McNamara Headquarters Complex.

Leaders from across the organization briefed DLA Director Air Force Lt. Gen. Andy Busch on the organization’s major strategic and operational objectives.

“We crafted the AOP around August of last year … put an emphasis on warfighter support, particularly in [U.S. Pacific Command] that started us on a course of action,” DLA Energy Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark McLeod said. “I don’t think [it] significantly differs from how we’ve seen our goals, objectives and visions as an organization before, but I think it’s reemphasized a couple of things and set the stage for a bit of a focus change.”

Topics discussed during the briefing included DLA Energy’s strategic vision, strategic obstacles overcome, the global supply chain, international agreements, small business and audit readiness.

McLeod wanted to emphasize that this Defense Department community has become a bit of an oddity from the standpoint of the military services over the past couple years as they have decided to give up a lot of their capabilities, he said.

“They have turned more and more to us to as the defense agency to supply those capabilities, and that’s just not bulk fuel; that’s expertise, technology and ideas. … This is the place where expertise rests,” he added. “We are evolving ourselves into an end-to-end construct that will make us a lot better as we go forward.”
