Distribution’s Stoff retires after 24 years in the U.S. Air Force

By Brianne M. Bender DLA Distribution Public Affairs

On Thursday, Oct. 8, surrounded by friends, coworkers and Defense Logistics Agency Distribution leadership, Air Force Col. Karen D. Stoff, retired after 24 years of active duty with the U.S. Air Force.

For the past two years, Stoff has served as the deputy director of DLA Distribution’s process and planning directorate. “All of the great things we have accomplished could not have occurred without the strong force of Col. Stoff,” said Sonya Gish, director of DLA Distribution's process and planning directorate.

Stoff received her commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in May 1991, with a Bachelor of Science degree. She has been assigned to base-level Major Command, Numbered Air Force, Air Staff and joint positions.

Additionally, Stoff has deployed to work in an Air Operations Center on a Joint Task Force staff, and in an Army Sustainment Brigade.

As a graduate of the Advanced Studies of Air Mobility program, Stoff has served as the executive officer to a deputy combatant commander. She has also served as the commander of the Logistics Readiness Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany and as the Deputy Mission Support Group commander at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

“My plan is to have no plan, to take time to figure everything out,” explained Stoff. “It has been an honor to serve here at DLA Distribution. I am a better person because of the people of DLA, Distribution and Pennsylvania.”

Gish presented Stoff with the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for her service at DLA Distribution Headquarters, which began in August 2013.  Stoff was then presented with a certificate of retirement from the United States Air Force.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Stoff asked Gish and Denise Kurtz, material accountability division chief, to join her on stage to present the staff of the process and planning directorate with t-shirts to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
