DLA wins 5 DoD Value Engineering Awards

By DLA Public Affairs DLA Public Affairs

One Defense Logistics Agency employee and four teams were awarded Department of Defense Value Engineering Achievement Awards for fiscal 2014 June 25 at a Pentagon ceremony.

Value engineering is an analytic process that identifies functions that can reduce cost, increase quality and improve mission capabilities across DoD systems, processes and organizations. The Value Engineering Achievement Awards, which were presented by the assistant secretary of defense for systems engineering, recognize outstanding achievements through the application of the process.

DLA’s Value Management Program, which includes the agency’s value engineering efforts, is aimed at reducing the cost of materials while retaining or improving quality, reliability and function. During fiscal 2014, DLA saved more than $313 million through the Value Management Program.

Award winners were chosen from each DoD component in five categories: program/project, individual, team, organization and contractor. Additional special awards recognized applications or approaches that expanded the scope of value engineering. DLA’s winners were:

-- Program/Project: V-22 Alternate Sourcing Project, DLA Aviation.

-- Individual: Jason Isernhagen, DLA Land and Maritime.

-- Team: TF-34 Feedback Cable Source Qualification Project Team, DLA Aviation.

-- Organization: DLA Aviation.

-- Special: Value Management Team, DLA Land and Maritime.
