Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jayzen Bartolome has been awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: Junior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year award for his work as the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, Storage Division leading petty officer.

“Petty Officer Bartolome effectively managed the most dynamic and challenging operational division at DLA Distribution Yokosuka,” said Navy Cmdr. Brian Johnson, the distribution center’s commander.  “His managerial skills were critical to the operation of six facilities with an 85-person combined workforce of military, U.S. civilian employees, and Japanese national employees, which provides 24/7 logistics combat support.”

Bartolome was responsible for the receipt, storage, and issue of more than $10 million worth of material, including depot-level repairables, cold chain material, maps, classified material, and other sensitive items, while providing exceptional logistics support to the forward deployed units in the Seventh and Fifth Fleet Areas of Responsibility.

“His process improvements and keen insights were critical to the success of the division’s preparations for standardization and Audit Readiness,” said Johnson.

Bartolome also serves as the Care of Supplies in Storage manager, where he inspected all materials in DLA Distribution Yokosuka’s custody, including more than 5,000 line items, preventing the damage or loss of $71 million worth of critical components.

During a recent inventory, Bartolome achieved 100 percent integrity of classified and controlled medicinal and high dollar value depot-level repairable material.

Bartolome serves as the command’s career counselor, where he actively engaged in several initiatives to steer junior personnel towards a successful career, upward mobility, job satisfaction, and ultimately, the retention of best-qualified personnel.

“Petty Officer Bartolome’s unfailing devotion to duty, professional commitment, and noteworthy achievements reflect great credit upon himself,” said Johnson.  “Unquestionably, his actions most deserve this recognition.”
