Susquehanna military help a local veteran in need

By Jessica Roman DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Assisting Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area, several military members stationed at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., along with others from Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna, helped rehab a home in a unique way – by veterans for a veteran.

The team came together in the spirit of community, working throughout the morning to repair the roof, reframe windows, repair a stairway, and install a dryer vent at the home.

“This was a chance for my co-workers and me to give back to those in need,” says Army Staff Sgt. Davis Lewis, a parachute rigger assigned to DLA Distribution Susquehanna.  “We hope to inspire others around us to do the same.”

The event was part of “Make a Difference Day,” which is a day for millions of volunteers across the nation to unite with a common mission – to improve the lives of others.  This year marked the 24th year of the project, and is the largest national day of community service.

Lewis, an active community volunteer in the Susquehanna region, says “We definitely plan to help out with future projects.”
