Troop Support Pacific supports DOD school in Okinawa

By Michael Tuttle DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

When the Kubasaki High School track team runs this spring, it will be on a new rubber track procured through Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Pacific.

Kubasaki High School is a school for Department of Defense dependents on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa. It’s part of Camp Foster, headquarters for Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, which includes eight Marine camps on the island.

The removal of the school’s old track and installation of the new rubber chip track was supported though the Construction and Equipment supply chain’s Maintenance, Repair and Operations program, said Henry Aclipen, a forward logistics specialist with DLA Troop Support Pacific.

The MRO program provides tailored support for facilities maintenance, public works, civil engineering and similar projects for DOD customers around the world.

Aclipen works with military customers throughout Okinawa and learned of the Kubasaki project while visiting the facilities manager of the 13 DOD Education Activity schools on the island. Aclipen coordinated support for the 400-meter track, repairs to the bleachers in the school’s gymnasium and updated bathroom fixtures.

The bleachers will be used for assemblies and for fans to watch the Kubasaki Dragons girls’ basketball team attempt to repeat as Far East champions this winter, said Angela Butler, Kubasaki principal.
