DLA Energy Americas at Houston change of command

By DLA Energy Public Affairs

The Defense Logistics Agency Energy Americas at Houston outgoing commander Army Lt. Col. Christian Meisel handed over responsibility of the organization to Army Lt. Col. Josielyn Carrasquillo during a change of command ceremony in Houston, June 29.

DLA Energy Americas Commander Army Col. Craig Simonsgaard officiated the ceremony. Simonsgaard thanked Meisel for his role as the DLA Energy Americas at Houston commander.

“One of the attributes I appreciated most about Lt. Col. Meisel was his sound voice of reason and that he challenged me when it was needed,” Simonsgaard said.

During the ceremony, Meisel was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service medal. His next assignment will be logistics (G4) for Task Force 51, U.S. Army North, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. TF-51 is Army North's contingency command post and conducts a Defense Support of Civil Authority, homeland defense and theater security cooperation in order to promote the defense and security of the United States.

Meisel thanked the employees of DLA Energy Americas at Houston.

“The region’s success is due to the extraordinary talents of the people assigned to Americas Houston,” Meisel said. “My end of tour award gave me credit for the $2.5 billion value of bulk fuel contracts but it is the Americas Houston employees who perform the job every day.”

Carrasquillo expressed her appreciation for the hospitality she and her family received when they arrived in Houston and how she looks forward to continuing Americas East’s outstanding accomplishments.

“It’s a one team, one fight, one family,” she said.

Simonsgaard thanked the six commercial partners who attended the ceremony partners including Colonial Pipeline, Petromax Refining Company and Vane Brothers.

“It is a great opportunity to see a military change of command,” Simonsgaard said. “It is fitting for them to attend since the commercial sector provides all of our bulk energy products and the military gets involved at the last tactical kilometer.”
