DLA Energy staged more than 600,000 gallons of fuel at Fort Hood to support FEMA emergency responders

By Fort Hood Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Energy Americas East, based out of Houston, staged 160 trucks filled with diesel and gasoline at Hood Army Airfield, here, to be used as a Federal Emergency Management Agency fuel staging area in support of disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Since Aug. 27, 100,000 gallons have been distributed to FEMA rescue and operations support organizations assisting with the cleanup and rescue in the Houston area.

“This [fuel] allows FEMA first responders to not use the local gas stations,” said Lt. Col. Josielyn Carrasquillo, Task Force Americas commander, DLA-Energy Americas East. “…They have the fuel that they need to continue the operations for hurricane relief efforts that we are doing in Houston. … We’re going to continue providing these first responders the right fuel support at the right time, at the right place.”

The purpose of the mission is to relieve the strain FEMA first responders would have put on local fill-up stations in order for Houston citizens to have access to the fuel they need.
