DLA encourages R&D partnerships at October Industry Day

By Kathleen Gleason, DLA R&D

Logistics leaders from the Defense Logistics Agency Research and Development division will host the second annual Industry Day Oct. 3 at the McNamara Headquarters Complex. In keeping with DLA’s “Warfighter First” strategic goal, R&D representatives will brief industry and academia on opportunities to support the warfighter through innovation.

Key topics at the Fort Belvoir event will include program requirements for R&D’s manufacturing technology and logistics processes, as well as research involving small businesses.

Manufacturing technology focuses on boosting the operational performance of key supply chains. It seeks to improve food packaging and storage, extend battery life for weapon systems and ensure a ready supply of difficult-to-source microcircuits at a sustainable cost.

Logistics development explores innovative supply chain processes such as 3D printing of critical parts, alternative fuels, and medical-logistics capabilities.
DLA R&D program managers will present key program requirements and discuss in group breakouts throughout the morning. In the afternoon, R&D will offer an open house for DLA leadership and stakeholders.

“Industry Day showcases our customers’ highest priorities… across each of our programs with logistics performers from industry and academia,” said Navy Cdr. Andres Diaz, deputy chief of DLA R&D.

The first R&D/Industry Day was September 2016 and featured several dozen attendees from small and large businesses, as well as academic institutions.
