By DLA Aviation Public Affairs DLA Aviation Public Affairs

The 42nd Marine Corps Marathon took place in Arlington, Virginia, Oct.22. Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Sean Mayo, a contract administrator in the Supplier Operations Original Equipment Manufacturer Directorate’s Post-Award Division in Richmond, Virginia, participated in the event. This was Mayo’s second Marine Corps Marathon since 2015. He has also participated in Richmond’s Ukrop’s Half Marathon in November 2014, Richmond’s Monument Avenue 10K in 2015, and other 5K runs on Defense Supply Center Richmond.

William Carmichael, deputy chief of the Post-Award Division submitted Mayo to be recognized for participating in the MCM but also to highlight Mayo’s well-rounded contributions to DLA Aviation and the warfighter.

Mayo started at DLA Aviation in March 2013 as a contractor where he performed contract administration duties for various OEMs. He joined the post-award team in August 2014 as the sole contract administrator for Eaton Aerospace, at which time he received exceptional feedback from that company’s management team for his diligence and internal post-award commendations for his dedication to the mission. In 2015, Mayo was assigned to the Boeing team where he continues to make a difference as a loyal team-player who consistently strives for greatness.

Mayo served in the Marine Corps from August 2000 to August 2004 as a subsistence supply clerk and was honorably discharged as a corporal. “Mayo truly lives up to the expression, ‘Once a Marine, always a Marine’ as he continues to support the Corps and participates in events with other warfighters,” said Carmichael.

Organized by the men and women of the Marine Corps, the MCM is the largest marathon in the world that doesn't offer prize money, instead celebrating the honor, courage and commitment of all finishers.

As stated on the MCM webpage, the mission of the marathon is to promote physical fitness, generate community goodwill and showcase the organizational skills of the United States Marine Corps. Annually ranked as one of the largest marathons in the U.S. and the world, the MCM has been recognized as "Best Marathon in the Mid-Atlantic," "Best for Families" and "Best for Beginners." Runners from all 50 states and more than 50 countries participate in the MCM and an annual calendar of events including the Marine Corps Historic Half in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in May and the MCM Event Series conducted on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
