DLA Distribution San Diego takes part in NASNI centennial celebration

By DLA Distribution San Diego takes part in NASNI centennial celebration

Naval Base Coronado’s, Naval Air Station North Island recently commemorated its 100th anniversary of service.  There were over 99 events with multiple vendors and displays leading up to the final celebration of Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2017.  DLA Distribution San Diego, California participated in the event as an opportunity to support higher headquarters.

The event afforded the DLA team the opportunity to strengthen DLA’s partnership with local customers and educate personnel about DLA’s logistics capabilities.

The base-wide event sponsored by Naval Base Coronado’s commanding officer, Navy Capt. Scott T. Mulvehill, showcased historical facts about the installation, and the Naval Air Enterprise.  The event also allowed Naval Base Coronado the opportunity to recognize combat veterans and former commanding officers.

“It was a privilege to be a part of DLA, and offer my time at DLA’s tent for the NASNI 100th anniversary and to explain to people what Defense Logistics Agency is all about,” said Carol Roddy, transportation officer with DLA Distribution San Diego. “The highlight was assisting a World War II veteran and his wife in walking back to their car and bringing back a picture of North Island, of which the veteran wanted to donate the picture to the base for history.”

In support of the event, DLA Distribution San Diego, CA, with the help of local DLA Major Subordinate Commands, setup a static display and engaged a number of individuals curious about job opportunities and the range of war fighter support and services provided by DLA’s Southern California MSC organizations.

"It was an honor to be able to represent DLA during the centennial celebration and to be able to share information about the DLA mission. The interest and excitement of those unfamiliar with what DLA offers was tremendous.  More importantly, being able to say 'thank you' to those veterans who served, the Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Soldiers and Coast Guardsmen who are currently serving and our next generation, people like the young men and women who continue to commit to serving this great country.  It was a wonderful and exciting event,” explained Stella Nealy the director of the Program Management Office, Enterprise Service Delivery & EHD, DLA Information Operations.
