The Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s new Joint Reserves Forces team lead said he was humbled, honored and grateful for the support of family and friends during his promotion ceremony Dec. 1.
Army Col. James G. Gill was promoted from the rank of lieutenant colonel during a ceremony officiated by DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Mark T. Simerly. Several of Gill’s family members and colleagues attended the ceremony.
“The journey to O-6 has been a long road with many obstacles,” Gill said. “I appreciate the encouragement and support I’ve received along the way.”
A Raleigh, North Carolina native, Gill described the values of duty and service being instilled in him through his family. His father was a World War II veteran and other relatives also served in the military.
“They all made serving the military our family business, and I appreciate that,” Gill said.
Gill enlisted in the Air Force in 1986 as a medical material specialist and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Delaware Army National Guard in 1991.
“Since that point in time he’s had significant responsibilities levied upon him, and in every opportunity he’s met and exceeded the expectations of those critical career positions,” Simerly said.
Gill recently served with the Center for Army Lessons Learned where he performed duties as an embedded liaison officer in Iraq. Prior to that assignment, he served as the Army Central G4 Sustainment Operations division chief in Kuwait.
“We’re extremely excited that James has joined our team,” Simerly said. “As Army officers, we lead within the guidelines of our Army values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. James, you walk the walk every day.”
Gill said he too is excited about working with Troop Support’s staff and Joint Reserves Forces.
“The journey continues today as I accept this new challenge,” Gill said. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, we live in a forever-changing world with threats evolving daily. Fellow service members, I proudly join you on the rest of this journey. We have a great nation depending on us and we will never let them down.”
The Joint Reserves Forces executes local support and mobilization obligations. The joint team leader ensures the operational and administrative readiness of joint service reservists assigned to Troop Support.
