2018 Rochester Institute of Technology Spring Career Fair

By Dawn Sutton DLA Land and Maritime People and Culture Directorate

Two Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime recruiters participated in the 2018 Rochester Institute of Technology Spring Career Fair, in Rochester, New York, Feb. 6, 2018.

This event provided DLA an opportunity to interact and speak with students from the Rochester area. The focus of this career fair was to inform students, especially those who are deaf or hard of hearing about career opportunities within DLA and other Government entities.

The goal was to attract and acquire a diversified workforce. The assistant director of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) Center on Employment was contacted prior to the Spring Career Fair providing information about the DLA Booth. She requested the career advisors to share the information with the deaf/hard of hearing students and encouraged them to visit the booth. The added incentive was that DLA deaf employees would be doing the recruiting.

Many of deaf/hard of hearing students had heard about the booth from their advisor and met with the recruiters. They were amazed with the recruiters’ experiences because both were RIT Alumni. This provided incentive that there are good jobs working in the federal government as deaf/hard of hearing employees that they can get a job and be successful at DLA Land and Maritime.

Many of those in attendance were interested in the Workforce Recruitment Program and how they can apply for it. Approximately 100 attendees visited the booth.
