DLA Distribution Safe and Sound Week

By Diana Dawa DLA Distribution Public Affairs

DLA Distribution’s Safety Team held a Safe and Sound Week August 13–17 as part of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s annual campaign. Safe and Sound Week allows safety experts to show and explain the opportunities available to our employees to help keep them safe, said Rupel Perkins, DLA Distribution Safety Team.

“In our case we presented a home safety briefing during DLA Distribution Organization Day and VIP Kid’s event. During the course of the whole week we were present in the cafeteria of building 430, talking about the importance of safety and demonstrating safety methods to help bring occupational safety and health to the forefront.”

According to Pat Quenga, DLA Distribution Safety Team, Safe and Sound week is OSHA’s nationwide event held to raise awareness and understanding of the value of safety and health programs that include management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards in workplaces.

“DLA Distribution supported this event with a focus on key presentations during the lunch period in the cafeteria by setting up a safe and sound week booth. Focus topics included: Safe and Sound 101, Stop The Bleeding, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program (SAPR), Stair Chair Safety, Child Passenger Safety, Fire Emergency Safety, and Office Ergonomics,” said Quenga.

Presenters came from the Fire Department, Police Department, PENNDOT Highway Safety, and Specialty Staff (SAPR, EAP, and Distribution Safety).  Booth supporters also included building 430 Area Safety Representatives.

Underscoring the importance of the event, Distribution’s Safety Team must report up to DLA/DoD on everything that was done to support the OSHA initiative.
