Susquehanna’s Davis receives Outstanding DoD Employee with a Disability Award

DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Sally Davis, a distribution process worker at the DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania Eastern Distribution Center, Packing and Outloading Branch, has been awarded the Outstanding DoD Employee with a Disability Award for 2018.

Davis, who graduated from Pennsylvania School for the Deaf with a major in graphic arts in 1980, routinely works “spur 100” single-handedly, a task normally performed by two employees.

“Thoroughness and accuracy are embodied in her behavior, and she processed over 4,000 error-free Material Requisition Orders weekly in fiscal year 2017,” explained Davis’s supervisor John Northrup.

“Ms. Davis is the model example of safety! She demonstrated superior performance in following all safety guidelines, with zero incidents in all measured safety case rates for more than three years.  She encouraged others to follow her lead, resulting in a decreased case rate for the PACOUT Branch in all three major areas,” Northrup said.

Furthermore, Davis recommended several process improvement recommendations throughout her career.  During the nomination period, she identified required packing materials for her area and restructured the material placement layout for more efficient operations, resulting in a savings of $100,000 in labor costs, or the equivalent of two and a quarter annual full time employees.

Using keen initiative and resourcefulness, Davis identified over 2,500 misdirected shipments on the EDC conveyance system.  She formulated a solution, working with other-organizations to ensure misrouted shipments were directed to the correct destination.  Her efforts helped support DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania’s mission “to strive to provide superior distribution services on time, every time.”

“Ms. Davis consistently displayed enthusiasm in working with others, inspiring top performance in her area.  She is the epitome of DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania’s command philosophy of “Character, Ownership, Respect, and Excellence,” and is an example for peers and leadership alike,” said Northrup.  “She is a strong contributor to the overall success of ensuring customer satisfaction.  I am honored to recognize Sally A. Davis for this prestigious award. Her thorough grasp of all facets of her position and “can-do” attitude makes her an invaluable asset to this organization.”

Davis received her award during a ceremony held Oct. 4 at the Pentagon.
