By Cory Angell, DLA Distribution Public Affairs

DLA Distribution Korea broke ground on a new warehouse in a ceremony Thursday, March 21.

“It is no wonder, given the importance of the mission, that Korea has made the decision to fund the construction of a new facility that will bring DLA Distribution into the 21st century by dramatically increasing both its capacity and capability,” said DLA Distribution Korea Commander, Army Lt. Col. James McGee. “We are on the cutting edge of DLA Distribution’s push to modernize its global network of distribution centers with this project.”

According to project worksheets the two-story building will have 250,000 square feet.  It will also includ 20,000 square feet of low level hazardous storage area and 25,000 square feet for administrative space. The building itself is a Republic of Korea funded project with DLA adding $5 million state-of-the-art racking and material handling equipment.

“Not only was a new warehouse needed, we needed to upgrade the equipment and processes,” said Glen Harry, the industrial engineer who helped design the new facility and its modernization“This will be a state-of-the-art facility with automated material handling systems.”

Harry said that when the construction is complete sometime in 2020 and the automated systems are in place; the facility will be the most up-to-date in DLA Distribution.
