Department of Defense heads of Supply and Logistics visit DLA Distribution Sigonella, Italy

Department of Defense heads of Supply and Logistics across the services visited Naval Air Station, Sigonella, Italy, for a tour of the installation and briefings at tenant commands, including DLA Distribution Sigonella, Italy.
 
The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Sustainment, Honorable Robert H. McMahon; Director for Logistics, Joint Staff, Lt. Gen. Giovanni K. Tuck; Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection, Lt. Gen. Warren D. Berry; U.S. Army Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, Maj. Gen. John P. Sullivan; Special Assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Rear Adm. Rick Williamson; Director of Logistics, U.S. European Command, Rear Adm. Paul J. Verrastro; Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics, Mrs. Denise R. Reardon and Deputy Commander, DLA Energy, Guy C. Beougher were briefed on the full complement of physical distribution services provided by DDSI.  
 
Navy Cmdr. Vincent V. Erno, commander, DDSI, provided a general overview of the support provided to warfighters from all four service components and other federal agencies, providing forward stock positioning support and enhanced physical distribution services throughout U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Central Command.
 
According to Erno, “DDSI is strategically located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, ideally located on the historically-rich island of Sicily. Officially activated April 1, 2004, DLA Distribution Sigonella, Italy, was established to provide forward stock positioning support and enhanced physical distribution services to increase lethality and improve warfighter readiness in the Mediterranean.”
 
DDSI’s, primary customers currently include the Aviation Support Division, Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Division and Navy ships and squadrons operating in the Mediterranean region. Specialized handling and support services include managing the Navy's hazardous materials, depot level repair part storage and distribution, and a complete range of material packing and shipping services. Sigonella also provides expedited requisitioning and centralized receiving support to the military community throughout the Mediterranean.
