DLA Distribution Barstow, California, honors retiring director

By Cory Angell, DLA Distribution Public Affairs

DLA Distribution, Barstow, California honored Mr. Brent Cox with the Exceptional Civilian Service award at his retirement ceremony May 24 after his 10 years as the director. According to Ms. Twila Gonzales, SES, Deputy Commander, DLA Distribution, “We will miss him and we wish him and his family well as he enters into his well-deserved retirement.”

Cox oversaw a complex operation at two worksites, with responsibilities for approximately 62,700 national stock numbers stored in 18 buildings and six outdoor lots, with an inventory value of more than $1.5 billion.

Cox has a list of accomplishments over his 10 years to include assuming oversight of the disposition services mission at the Marine Corps Logistics Base – Nebo. He also successfully handled a growth of 30 percent in workload in 2016 when the Marine Corps’ maintenance mission expanded. He assisted with the review and development for new projections in order to increase staffing and the budget to meet the new demands.

Barstow completed more than 1.1 million receipts, issues, transshipments and disposals during Mr. Cox’s tenure, averaging approximately 110,500 per year. He served as director from March 2009 to May 2019.

“I just wanted to say thank you for the best 10 years in my working career,” said Cox. “I have enjoyed my stint with DLA Distribution more than any other position that I have had over the years. I have been extremely proud to serve with our team here in Barstow.”
