DLA Distribution Bahrain welcomes new commander

Georgia native Navy Cmdr. Joseph H. Peth took command of DLA Distribution Bahrain from outgoing commander, Navy Cmdr. Charles M. Tellis, in a change of command ceremony held June 13.

Army Col. Hattie Richardson, commander, DLA CENTCOM & SOCOM, officiated the ceremony held at Naval Support Activity, Bahrain.
In his remarks, outgoing commander Tellis thanked his family, friends, and Distribution Bahrain teammates for their unwavering support and dedication, and noted the importance of the DDNB mission.

“DDNB supports a multitude of ships and war fighting units operating in this area of responsibility under some high tempo, tight timelines and tough sometime physical conditions. DDNB has formed critical relationships, improved culture and made our processes more efficient. You have elevated the relevancy and credibly of DLA in this theater—a job well done!

“Many of you have said to me, “What are you most proud of from your time here in Bahrain?” It wasn’t hard to come up with an answer. You see, it was the people and the relationship that I established with you,” said Tellis.

In his follow on assignment, Tellis will report to the Eisenhower School of National Security at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C.

Incoming commander Peth previously served as the lead logistics planner for U.S. Naval Forces North and U.S. Fleet Forces Command. He is an alumnus of Georgia Southern University. He earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain Management from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Science degree in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Forces Staff College.

Peth enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1987 and served on the USS Excel (MSO-439), COOPMINEUNIT 2209 at Savannah, Georgia, and IBU27 at Charleston, South Carolina. He was selected for the Officer Candidate Program in Pensacola, Florida, and received his commission as a Navy Supply Corps Officer in June 2000.

His afloat tours include disbursing officer on the USS Taylor (FFG 50) and supply officer on the USS Lake Erie (CG 70). His ashore tours include disbursing and foreign military sales instructor at Navy Supply Corps School, Athens, Georgia; N4 at Naval Special Warfare Unit Three in Manama, Bahrain; expeditionary logistics officer at Commander, Naval Special Warfare Command in Coronado, California; joint planner at the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command in Norfolk, Virginia; and lead logistics planner at U.S. Fleet Forces Command.

He is a member of the Acquisition Professional Community and has earned warfare qualifications in Expeditionary Logistics and Supply Surface Warfare.
